We have always loved Baz Luhrmann for his incredible visuals and the new movie - Australia is fantastic stuff - both with the wide sweeping visuals and a cracking sound track. The movie itself is a wonderful period love story, and the awesome cinematography will immediately grab you. The movie is a romantic action-adventure set in northern Australia prior to World War II. The movie was actually shot in Bowen in Tropical North Queensland, a sleepy sugar cane town more famous for its naming of a type of mango (Bowen mangos are delicious!) than a film location.
The plot revolves around an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) who inherits a cattle station the size of Surrey. (No Essex footballers wife’s here!) When some English (rotters!) cattle heavies plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn Aussie cattle drover (Hugh Jackman) to drive a mob of cattle up north across hundreds of miles of rugged Australian semi-desert outback, only to arrive in Darwin and get bombed by the Japanese attacks on Darwin. Its a big film, no - make that a big big film and its a bloody beauty mate! Below are two clips from the film and also -us being irreverent Aussies -a sidesplittingly funny version on the film off u tube. - Enjoy!
